Project Description: Artist will travel to Germany to conduct on-the-ground research and meet with individuals who are key for the development and execution of To Germany, With Love, a documentary film that explores the long-term impact of violent crime and the transformative power of forgiveness. This grant will also allow Almoradie to attend the European Film Market in Berlin so that she may continue to build relationships with broadcasters, distributors, festival programmers, producing partners, sales agents, and other industry colleagues key to the film’s success.
Bio: Desireena Almoradie is a queer Pinay media activist whose work has been exhibited around the world. She explores collective history and the representation of marginalized communities in her films, especially as it pertains to LGBT and people of color. Almoradie has both an undergraduate degree in film from New York University and a graduate degree from its Interactive Telecommunications Program. She was a producer for the award-winning LGBT news series In the Life, and in 2003, her news feature on “Victims of 9-11” was nominated for an Emmy. She won a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding TV Journalism for the segment “Funding the Marriage War” in 2009, and her films and art installations have been featured at MIX NYC (NY Queer Experimental Film Festival), Queens Museum of Art, New York, and the British Film Institute, London, among other venues.
