North African Collage (1952)

Made in Italy and North Africa, this series of collages was produced on cardboard from laundered shirts using local printed papers and old engravings found in bookstalls and flea markets. Approximately 40 years later, Rauschenberg created a suite of print facsimiles 50 percent larger than the original works titled Shirtboards - Morocco/Italy, 1952 (1991).
