ROCI USA (1990)

A series of works made for the final Rauschenberg Overseas Culture Interchange exhibition, ROCI USA, held at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., in 1991. The majority of the works are from a series called Wax Fire Works (1990–91), made in association with Saff Tech Arts in Oxford, Maryland. They were produced using a technique that Rauschenberg coined “fire wax,” where wax, containing pigment, was painted or silkscreened onto polished aluminum supports and fixed using heat, similar to traditional encaustic painting.
