Bellinis (1986–89)

These photogravures were published by Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) in West Islip, New York. The Bellini series takes its imagery from Allegorie (1490–1504), small panel paintings by the Venetian Renaissance artist Giovanni Bellini (1430–1516) in the collection of the Gallerie dell’Accademia, Venice. Bellini’s subjects are combined with imagery from Rauschenberg’s own photography, often featuring contemporary city imagery.
