Complex Movements

Detroit, Michigan

Complex Movements is a Detroit-based artist collective that integrates the fields of music, theater, visual arts, interactive performance, multimedia installation, and creative technology into a seamless experience for live audiences. The collective builds upon a hip-hop foundation and on the legacy of arts and social justice movements. Their work emphasizes the root causes of social injustice and creates space for communities to cultivate relationships and envision new pathways for change. Complex Movements works deeply with social justice organizers, cultural workers, and community members, who are implementing solutions to injustices such as state violence and displacement that rarely receive extended resources or visibility. Their current production Beware of the Dandelions is a mobile art installation that occurs inside a 400 square foot polyhedron dome-like pod structure that incorporates science-fiction, projections, songs, and interactive game elements.
