Ensemble Theatre is dedicated to producing works that celebrate the human spirit. Committed to nontraditional casting and to providing culturally diverse programs that speak to issues of contemporary life, the company serves greater Cleveland and the Midwest by reintroducing the classics and examining them with new eyes along with supporting the development of new works for the American stage. Educational and outreach activities impact youth and underserved populations through resident and touring performances.
Among notable accolades, Ensemble created the series Panorama of African-American Theater, which was filmed by PBS, syndicated nationally, and recognized by the network as one of the top 25 educational programs in the country. The company won the Northern Ohio Live Achievement Award for its productions of A Trip to Bountiful, Kentucky Cycle, and Having Our Say. Cleveland Magazine's Reader Poll chose the company’s presentation of The Gin Game as Best Production. Ensemble received the 2012 Cleveland Critics Circle Awards for Best Director, Actor, and Production for The Normal Heart, as well as the 2013 Best Director Award for The Iceman Cometh.
