Lives and works in San Francisco Bay Area

Project Description: The Pop-Up Resource Village is harnessing the impact of design to address the social challenges that both lead to and have been created by mass incarceration. It does so through a new mobile infrastructure that will provide education, social services, and shelter for those who have been formerly incarcerated, as well as homeless populations and chronically undeserved communities in San Francisco. This series of re-used mobile units will also provide much needed urban regeneration to the location in need.

Update: Since receiving the Artist as Activist fellowship grant, The Pop up resource Village received a Google Impact Challenge Grant and garnered press coverage.  Deanna Van Buren was also invited to apply for a coveted ArtPlace grant, and is a finalist for the Echoing Green Black Male Achievement Fellowship, which aims to improve the life outcomes of black men and boys. Build out of the mobile education bus is slated to begin in April, and launched in September, 2016.  The Pop Up Approach to Fighting Mass Incarceration.
