Cardbirds (1971)

Inspired by Rauschenberg’s series of Cardboards (1971–72), these print facsimiles of cardboard prototypes were published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles. The labels, text, folds, discoloration, and fraying on the surface of these works were produced by screenprint and offset-printing (to match the cardboard originals). This technique results in a trompe l’oeil effect that gives the impression that these are found objects.
