Feticci Personali (1952–53)

A series of hanging “fetish” assemblages of animal fur, rope, wood, and various small objects, which may have been inspired by ritual artifacts used by North African tribes that Rauschenberg visited during his travels with artist Cy Twombly from 1952–53. These are Rauschenberg’s first works to involve suspension, none of which are known to be extant.
