Pelican Bomb

New Orleans, Louisiana

Pelican Bomb is dedicated to supporting the creative communities of New Orleans and their audiences by cultivating multiple platforms for contemporary art discourse, engagement, and education. Since the launch in February 2011 of their founding program, a website of local arts writing, Pelican Bomb has grown into a multifaceted nonprofit organization and a leader in the contemporary visual arts in New Orleans. Pelican Bomb currently focuses on four main programs: the city’s only online arts writing and criticism publication, the state’s first and only Community Supported Art (CSA) program, an exhibitions program that imagines contemporary art as a lens for examining locally relevant political and social issues, and a critic-in-residence program for arts writers throughout the country to connect with local artist communities. Together their programs build greater awareness of contemporary art in the city, create professional development opportunities for artists and writers, and make artists' practices more accessible to audiences.
